Meet the 3D reflection of yourself

You can experience and see this award-winning virtual reality opera from 23 to 27 October & from 30 October to 3 November. Songs for a Passerby (2023) is a meditative quest, which you undergo individually. For half an hour, you distance yourself from reality and look at yourself. You become a puppeteer of your own body in a poetic space, where the melancholic question arises: am I moving through the moments, or are the moments moving through me?

Immersion

In Songs for a Passerby, you walk through a musical dreamscape with VR glasses. You see different scenes: a dying horse, a whispering chorus of people, and two dogs playing. You also encounter a 3D reflection of yourself. In the process, you hear a sung, whispered and spoken opera. Image, sound and your own movement merge into an all-encompassing experience.

International awards

Director Celine Daemen (Schimmert, 1995) uses her work, which is a mix of theatre, music, visual art and technology, to create extraordinary experiences that invite the audience to look inside. Her first VR opera Eurydice (2022) won several awards, including the Grand Prize of the Venice Immersive festival. Songs for a Passerby also won this prestigious award for immersive virtual-reality art.
