Loan procedure Bonnefanten

The Bonnefanten’s loan policy is a generous one, not least for the benefit of individual artists. We are therefore pleased to offer our cooperation in lending out works from our collection.

The Bonnefanten’s loan policy is a generous one, not least for the benefit of individual artists. We are therefore pleased to offer our cooperation in lending out works from our collection.

Requests should be submitted at least six months before the start of the exhibition. Although requests submitted less than three months before the opening date will be dealt with, they may be refused because of the short turnaround time. Requests will taken into consideration following the submission of a written request to the director, addressed: Bonnefanten, attn. Mr Stijn Huijts, P.O. Box 1735, 6201 BS Maastricht, The Netherlands.

The loan request should include the following details:

  • Name and address of the organisation requesting the loan
  • Name and details of the contact person
  • Exhibition title, location and exhibition period
  • Description of the concept of the exhibition
  • Details of the artwork(s), including the object number (given in our collection online)

Costs

The Bonnefanten does not charge a loan fee. However, the borrower must take account of the cost of transport by an accredited art transport service, the cost of insuring the work(s) during transport and the exhibition, the cost of packing materials and, if applicable, the cost of conservation or restoration treatment. If a courier is involved, there will also be costs for travel, hotel and per diem.

Criteria

Requests will be assessed in consultation with the artistic director, the curators and the Collection Management department. Important criteria are: the concept of the exhibition, the relevance of the work for the exhibition, the availability of the work and the condition of the work. Borrowers may be requested to provide an up-to-date facility report of the organisation or the climate details of the room where the work is to be displayed, from the same period as the loan period in the previous year. We aim to answer the request within three months.
