Learning within the museum

Within YOUNG OFFICE, participants work at the heart of the museum. They develop and facilitate activities, workshops, and public programmes, and are present as hosts throughout the building. During events such as Museumnacht and the Bonnefanten Free Fridays, they help shape the programme. Their ideas come to life in many forms: from a giant blanket fort in the museum to matchmaking office based on your art taste, and from a young artists’ exhibition to a punk concert.

Throughout the programme, there is space to experiment and develop an individual voice. Participants get to know the different roles within a museum, have a say on programming, and work independently on projects connected to their own interests and development goals.

Take-over!

A key part of the programme is the YOUNG OFFICE take-over. During this night, participants fully take over the museum and shape the entire programme themselves. Everything they have learned throughout the trajectory comes together and is put into practice. They are given the space to express their own vision and to reimagine the museum for one evening fully.

YOUNG OFFICE also looks beyond the museum walls. Participants explore the role of art in society and develop projects focused on accessibility and reaching new audiences. They are also active at festivals such as Pinkpop and Cultura Nova with pop-up programmes.

YOUNG OFFICE is therefore not only a learning programme, but also a space where young people actively help shape the museum and a testing ground for what it can become!
