Kahlil Joseph gained notoriety in the early 2010s for his beautifully-shot short films made in collaboration with some of the most respected, politically engaged, and forward-thinking hip-hop artists of the moment, such as Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, Shabazz Palaces, and FKA Twigs, as well as indie rock bands such as Arcade Fire. Initially hailed as one of the most important hip hop video directors (he is also one of the seven filmmakers who directed with Beyoncé’s visual album Lemonade), he is now considered one of the most influential contemporary installation artists.
