From 18 to 20 September, Maastricht will host the 44th edition of Musica Sacra. This year, the festival explores the theme of Ecstasy. Bonnefanten is also one of the festival’s venues.
Music and Architecture during Musica Sacra
On Saturday 19 September, Passing Remark, a new composition by internationally acclaimed composer Hildur Guðnadóttir, will be performed. She is known for her work on Chernobyl, Joker and Tár, among others. The work was commissioned by Musica Sacra and created in collaboration with the Holland Festival.
For Passing Remark, Guðnadóttir drew inspiration from the distinctive architecture of the Bonnefanten tower, designed by Italian architect Aldo Rossi. A large ensemble of student wind musicians will perform the composition from the tower’s circular balcony, bringing music and architecture into a literal dialogue.
